Why is it that certain people languish in misery while others adapt and handle themselves much more effectively? On the one hand, you can have someone who is mentally ill but manages their symptoms, tries different things and is proactive. On the other you have individuals who 'give up' and complain endlessly about their condition and incapabilities. It is almost as if loserdom is a hidden mental illness that sits behind other labels.
Losers, love to talk about how terrible they have it like they are in some kind of competition, except there is no prize besides some twisted sense of smug 'inferiority'. It is as though they are desperately trying to convince the world they are a victim and are attempting to loudly justify their position in life. I suspect that certain individuals are so enmeshed with loserdom that mental health professionals simply do not know what to do with them and assign them with 'something' just to offer some kind of explanation. This mindset is incompatible with progress.
The cause of this character flaw is elusive. Maybe it is due to not feeling heard as a child and not being filled up with enough love. Perhaps it is a coping mechanism to deal with the cognitive dissonance of having an inflated sense of self and achieving less than desired results. Your guess is as good as mine. -On a sidenote, this kind of perfectionism holds you back in every way. Perfectionism is only worth something if you're willing to go through the trial and error of extended effort. Imagine it as the cherry on the cake.-
Nonetheless their situation is very unfortunate and hopefully through acknowledgement of this trait, progress can be made in improving their lives and outlook.
